So, not that I knew it at the time, splurging turned out to have been a bad idea. Work’s cut my hours down yet again and this time by a truly outrageous amount, I did not get that other job, and I’m basically at the end of my rope. I need money for lunch and the bus, I have to pay my phone bill, I owe my mother $100 and I feel like a douche every time I put off paying her back, and now my job’s got me working six hours a week. My paycheck comes in on Wednesday and I know it’s only going to cover maybe a quarter of what I need it to cover, and the paycheck after that will cover even less.
I am not asking for charity, though please know that I am and would be extraordinarily grateful for the kindness and affection that fuels such donations; it is just, I would feel like an asshole! Even though I would never think someone asking for charity of me to be an asshole! ANXIETY!
Instead, I am offering:
Scarves!!!
Or: I don’t have enough faith in my writing or my reliability as a writer to offer fic commissions, but I’ve got plenty of faith in my knitting! I’m not the greatest or the most accomplished knitter, but my stitches are regular and tidy, my scarves are equally neat, and I can knit quickly and consistently (up to three scarves a week)! So!
For one low payment of $15, I will knit you a scarf of your choice. Do you want a breezy summer scarf? No problem! A chunky winter scarf? Ace of Bases! Something lacy and sweet? You got it! Hogwarts scarf? Why not! If there’s a free scarf pattern you like on Ravelry (free to register and an awesome resource, btw) or a scarf you love in a fictional thing you like, I can and will do my absolute best to knit that up for you. And if for whatever reason you are unhappy with the scarf I’ve made you, I will knit you another one right up for no extra charge!
Here’s a few scarves I’ve recently knitted (and one I’m working on right now):
I am also capable of knitting proper stripes (stripes is easy, dang), knitting in the round, and numerous pattern stitches (e.g. seed stitch, rice stitch, etc.).
If you are interested in commissioning a scarf from me, please contact me either here (though Tumblr being Tumblr…) or by way of e-mail so that you can let me know what it is you’d like, what your color preferences are, and if you’ve any sensitivities (e.g. you’re allergic to wool or cotton, etc.). My e-mail and Paypal address is thepriceoftea[AT]gmail[DOT]com; if you do e-mail me, please note SCARF COMMISSION in the subject and confirm the best way to reach you, as I’d like to keep you updated on the progress of your scarf as I knit it. (Obviously, in order to get your scarf to you, I will eventually need an address. Please trust me when I say I have no interest whatsoever in your juicy, tender heart or its warm, rich juices. I’m not a monster.)
So, if you’d like a scarf, please: let me help you! Let me help you help me? Help. Okay. I’m going to end this post now before I explode of nerves. Good-bye. Thank you.
I really like the green one. I really want one now even thought I don’t wear scarves often if at all. kjsnkgndkrg
okay, just a message for the world: a hand-knitted scarf is the best investment. ESPECIALLY if it’s wool.
You should TOTALLY commission Mem! She is a badass, and I know you want scarves made by a badass, right? Right!
